BERYL [Be3Al2SiO6]

A mineral noted for its variety of colours as gemstones and found associated with tungsten and tin deposits.

Beryl is also the source of beryllia (BeO), a ceramic having high thermal conductivity and electrical resistance, and via beryllium hydroxide, beryllium (Be), a very low density metal of mid-range temperature melting point that is used in copper, nickel and aluminium alloys.

  • The lumpy concentrate is ~70% beryl of which the beryllia content is minimum 10%.
  • It is traded in USD/mt based on beryllia content.
  • Beryllium-containing substances are known to be toxic causing beryllosis.
