Rhenium [Re]
Rhenium is a rare metal of silvery-white appearance. Its density is 21.05 g/cc and melting point 3180 degC. Although occurring in nature around volcano funnels as laurite (ReS2), its main source is as a by-product of from the roasting of MoS2 and copper ores, where it deposits on the walls of the flue stacks.
The main applications of Re are in super-alloys where it enhances modulus of elasticity and creep resistance at elevated temperatures. It is also used in thermocouples, catalysts and high powder electrical contacts and targets.
Rhenium is available in pellet and powder to high purity specifications (=99.98%), and is priced in USD/kg.
Rhenium wire, powder and plate scrap of minimum 3% Re with Mo or W as main balances are also offered.
Ammonium Perrhenate [NH4ReO4]
Also termed APR, this is the "mother salt" of rhenium. Used to make Pt/Re reforming catalysts, Re powder and alloys.
It is a white crystalline powder containing =69.4% Re. Depending on purity requirements, a detailed specification is available on request.
The price is in USD/kg Re contained.
